Gmund Beer Paper – WERKSTATT

Overview
Gmund is a traditional paper manufacturer located in the south of Germany, producing premium paper for over 190 years. To promote their innovative “Beer Paper” made from recycled brewing waste, Gmund needed a short animated retail spot to run in the store section where their papers are sold.

Concept
The animation takes a fun, playful twist, following a 2D-animated Bavarian couple who fall in love during the Oktoberfest beer festival. Their story reflects the product’s origin, blending tradition, romance, and sustainability in a charming and accessible way.

Execution
Commissioned by Alpenblick GmbH, I created a 2D animation that brings the story to life through clean transitions and tactile textures. I traveled to the Oktoberfest in Munich, the world’s most famous beer festival, to shoot original footage that was later integrated into the animation. The final spot was designed specifically for in-store screens, with a loopable format and no sound, ensuring it worked seamlessly in a retail environment without narration.

Impact
The animation played directly at the point of sale, helping customers connect emotionally with the story behind Beer Paper in just seconds. It boosted product visibility and supported Gmund’s positioning as a sustainable and design-forward premium paper brand.
